The library was officially opened by the Mayor of Greenwich, Councillor David Gardner, who cut the ribbon before meeting pupils and staff and hearing about the school’s plans for the new space.

After the event, Councillor Gardner said:

“I was delighted to meet such enthusiastic and engaged children and to see how a tired temporary building has been transformed into a truly magical library and reading space.”

The Reading Grove has been created with support from Compass Eko Trust, enabling the transformation of a former outdoor classroom into a dedicated library. Designed and built by ABC Book Club, the space will give pupils a new setting in which to enjoy reading, carry out research and spend time reading quietly.

Maryam, a Year 5 pupil, said:

“I love the new library because it is a quiet safe space to enjoy reading; it feels like a real woodland!”

Laura Sonnenberg, Head of School at Boxgrove Primary School, said:

“Reading is at the heart of education here at Boxgrove and this beautiful space reflects our commitment to offer a high quality and inspiring education for the pupils at our school.”
